Too many men carrying long pieces of metal/siding. But I didn’t get hit with anything which must have pleased the sub contractors. I pride myself in trying NOT to slow down the hard working folks.

The roof action was obvious and completed today. The roofing crew will come back tomorrow and pick up scrap steel for recycling and appearances sake.

Meanwhile Jimmy and Jeremy were going like gangbusters on the siding — an entire wall of the garage completed.

The trailer, which met with an unfortunate accident last week and was piled with debris awaiting a trip to the dump, was rendered disabled. Dan had brought up a load of ash firewood to run the wood heater in the garage. I suggested he might unload the damaged trailer into the one that hauled the wood in. Dan made it happen. I also happened to have the phone number of the Sandy Transfer Station (dump) so Dan called to confirm hours of operation and a load o’ trash got moved out. I knew there was a reason I wrote down random phone numbers.

Upcoming this week:

1.) Garage will get mudded and taped. James had planned to start on that today but his vehicle broke down
2.) Pump work will get finished.
3.) Siding frenzy will continue.
4.) Cousins will appear and saw up some firewood — happening on Wednesday. Do let me know if you want to join us.
5.) More pickup and cleanup
6.) Contents of storage locker will get moved up onto high shelves in the garage, off the concrete floor and out of the way. Really balconies. More than shelves.

DAN or STEWART: if you get this message, would you please take a group picture of the roofing crew? All I have are dark images against the sky of the metal nailers.

When a house like this one starts in the planning stages it is hard to envision what a view out a particular window will be. One is thinking about the way the house spaces flow into each other or if the linen closet is convenient to the laundry room and the bathrooms. But the view out the large trapizoidal window in the Great Room has been such a joyful surprise. Summer sun will rise in it and evening shadows fall through it. I remember “way back when” this project was just a gleam in my eye and the death of Hank was raw in my heart, I went up to the property at dawn and watched the sun get up. It was very healing and peaceful
